Hallways are notoriously difficult to decorate, the width and angles can make them dark places.
A paint that looks pale on another wall in your house might look a completely different shade when you put it on a stair wall.
One way to make your stairs brighter is to sand and paint them. Be warned this is quite labour intensive so you might want to set aside some time and conserve your energy.
Carpet or paint
Our stairs are naturally creaky so we opted for partially carpeting them to muffle the noise! We sanded the treads and painted the risers to add a bit of interest and then we added stair rods for a bit of luxury.
Choose a neutral coloured carpet so it doesn’t clash if you decide to change the colour of your walls. We went for a mushroom which works well with whites, greys, greens etc.
